WHAT does it mean to be HUMAN?

Many people say that to be a human YOU HAVE MAKE NO SENSE, you have to be incapable of doing things that computers can, and that Love is the only thing that separates a human from a robot because it is illogical and cannot be explained. While I agree with these, I couldn't be more against them. I disagree because while all these things are true, they are looked at in an entirely glass half empty kind of way.

As humans we don't make sense only because we are so complicated and conflicted that we look inconsistent to anyone that cannot understand us. The fact that we don't make sense doesn't make us stupid, it makes us so complicated that we cannot even understand ourselves.

Being human to many scientists means that we aren't as capable as computers and that we aren't as smart but we created computers, not the other way around. Computers cannot imagine something as complicated as a person and program them to be like a person. People create themselves and no amount of programming can make a person what they do not choose to become. it's true that you can make a person so miserable or so directed one way that they choose a certain path, but no matter what the circumstance, we still have a CHOICE.

Love is a human trait that seems to make no sense when you think about it objectively but it's what makes life worth living. Machines can't love, so I think the word that most describes how they live if we compare them to humans is SURVIVAL. It's just on the edge of not existing at all, this means that you simply are there and that you have not, as of yet, been wiped of the earth. As humans, we can have something far greater than survival, we can thrive. We can better ourselves and have empathy for others, and we can have such joy that it makes us feel like we can defy gravity, the drawback is that we can feel pain. We can hurt so badly that it feels like we can never get out of our beds because we have no will or strength to carry ourselves through the day.

Human aren't robots because while robots never have any pain and don't become discouraged, they also have no ambition. As humans we can either wallow and complete nothing or thrive and change the world. We can choose to be happy or sad. Being human means we have the agency to choose if we will be worse or better than survival because "there must needs be, that there is opposition in all things. If not so... all things must be compound into one... 'there would be no happiness or misery'".-2Nephi 2:11
